Carl Weller was born 17 February 1887, St. Johns, Michigan and died 10 December 1969, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He received his AB from Albion College, Albion, Michigan in 1908 and his MD from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1913 and an MS also from University of Michigan in 1916.

During his career he held several positions in the pathology department of the University of Michigan and University Hospital including being Chair of the Department of Pathology 1938-1956. Carl was the author of 150 articles dealing with a variety of subjects including mustard gas poisoning. He was Editor of The Annals of Internal Medicine, (1931-1933) and Editor of ‘The American Journal of Pathology’ (1941-1969). At the time of his death he was a Member and Chief of the Scientific Advisory Board of the AFIP. An annual lectureship, known as the Carl V. Weller Lecture, was established in 1956 by the Michigan State Pathological Society.
