Harold Robertson was born 8 October 1878 in Waseca, Minnesota and died 8 March 1946 in Rochester, Minnesota

He received his BA from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota in 1899 and his MD from University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1905 and then interned at University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After completion of his training in he worked in the Department of Pathology and Bacteriology in the University of Minnesota and from 1921 to 1946 he was Head of the Section on Pathologic Anatomy, Mayo Clinic and Professor of Pathology, Mayo Foundation. During his career he published many papers on a wide variety of subjects. He conducted courses in pathology at the Universities of Berlin and Freiburg. He was a major in the Medical Corps of the American Expeditionary Force, working at Dijon and Paris. In 1920 he was invited to the Mayo Clinic to do post mortem work for three months. He breathed such new life into the weekly clinico-pathological conferences of the Mayo Clinic that Dr. William Mayo invited him to work permanently at the Clinic. For approximately a quarter of a century his wide, exact knowledge and conspicuous ability, backed by an outstandingly strong personality, contributed greatly to the clinical, instructional and research work of the Mayo Clinic/Foundation, and justified the esteem in which he was held by his colleagues.
