Lyman Duff graduated from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1929.

- 1939-1956 Strathcona Professor of Pathology and Director of the Pathological Institute, McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

- 1949-1956 Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

He was considered to be a world expert on atherosclerosis and diseases of the pancreas. At various times he was President of the following societies: The Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists and the American Society for the study of Arteriosclerosis.
