Granville Bennett was born 23 September 1901 in Hiawatha, Kansas.
He received his MD from the University of Iowa in 1925 and trained at the University of Iowa and Harvard medical school (under S. Burt Wolbach).
From 1931-1943 he was a pathologist at Department of Pathology, Harvard Medical School and from 1943-1945 was Chair of Pathology at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana and from 1945-1954 was Chair of Pathology at University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois and Dean from 1954-1968.
Granville became an authority on bone and joint diseases. He wrote the chapter on bone diseases in Anderson’s Textbook of Pathology. He was President of the American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists and was one of the founders of the College of American Pathologists.
