Fredrick William Wiglesworth was born 30 September 1908 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and died 5 September 1985 in Vancouver, british Columbia.

He received his MD from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1931and then trained at Winnipeg General Hospital; Vancouver General Hospital; Montreal, Children's Hospital; McGill University. After completing his training and spent his entire career in Canada, accepting positions at Montreal Children’s Hospital, and finally as Professor of Pathology, McGill University. Fred was president of several associations and was a Fellow, Royal Society of Medicine and Founder Fellow (F.R.C.Path) of the Royal College of Pathologists UK. He published papers on many types of congenital heart diseases diseases, and also on a wide variety of other pediatric diseases. In 1980 he was appointed Honorary Professor of Pathology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
