David English Smith

IAP President 1964-1965

David English Smith, graduated from Washington University, St. Louis in 1944. The main period of his working life was at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Charlottesville, as Professor of Pathology and Chairman of the Department. David was a member of various committees and published articles on entities ranging from acute/subacute poisoning with antifreeze, nasal gliomas, subacute inclusion encephalitis, lesions secondary to Herpes simplex and quantitative histochemisty. He was co-editor (with F.K. Mostofi) of six IAP Monographs in Pathology. After his official retirement, David continued contact with the teaching of residents and students which he regarded as being ‘a privilege and a most rewarding personal experience.’

In 1981 David joined the department as Professor of Pathology while also serving as an Associate Dean of the School of Medicine of Tulane University. In 1985 he joined the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas as an Adjunct Professor of Pathology
